About Stefan Jhagroo
“Hi VOLO Readers!
I have been shooting models in South Florida for the past four years. Photography is a necessary balance to my full time job – which is as far removed from art and creativity as possible (think Chandler Bing’s mystery job in Friends).
I am originally from Trinidad and Tobago and moved to Miami over 15 years ago but have really only fully invested my- self into photography during the past 5.
I have always enjoyed capturing the juxtaposition of peace and adventure when shooting landscapes. But I started working with people specifically to address my awkward nature with strangers and to really experience true collaboration in the creation of a image.
I can happily say that I have met and worked with many interesting personas since taking up this hobby. And I’ve probably become even more awkward as time goes on. You can’t win them all.
I draw inspiration from the books I read, the movies I watch, the places I visit, the people I meet, the models I shoot, and the photographers I follow.
I have had the good fortune to meet and be mentored by local artists and working photographers in the field. They all have had an influence on the way I shoot.
My work tends to gravitate towards the darker side of the spectrum since I believe that interesting shadows create interesting light – especially with nudes.
No matter what the subject is, I strive to create something that’s honest, unpretentious and – above all – beautiful to look at.”
